Introduction
High quality user experience (UX) has become a central competitive factor of product development in mature consumer markets. Although user experience is a widely used term, there is a lack of practical methods for lightweight, iterative UX evaluation.

In this workshop we will bring together industrial practitioners and members of the academic community to explore and establish practical, applicable means of evaluating UX. This workshop is continuation for a workshop (UXEM’08) in CHI’08 and a SIG session in CHI'09, all investigating different kinds of UX evaluation methods. The participants will benefit from the knowledge gathered already, as well as introduce their best practices to workshop participants.

Topics

  • What experiential evaluation methods are available or under development? What methods from related disciplines could be utilized in UX evaluation?
  • What is the applicability of different evaluation methods in different product development phases and product readiness stages?
  • How do UX evaluation approaches of different application fields and usage contexts differ?

Participation
UXEM’09 is targeted at practitioners and researchers addressing the challenges of user experience evaluation in their work. Participants will be selected based on their contributions to user experience evaluation and the overall quality of their position paper.

The position papers of up to 4 pages (5 if absolutely necessary) must follow the SIGCHI format and should be sent in .PDF format to virpi.roto@nokia.com by May 8, 2009 (postponed deadline). At least one author is required to register to the workshop (August 25) and INTERACT 2009 conference.
