Qwerty or Dvorak? The future of Mobile Internet User Experiences
Dr Matt Jones, University of Swansea, UK
What is the mobile internet really for? Is there anything special about it? How will people perceive it; how will they want to access and contribute to it? The stimulating set of workshop position papers has made me think again about these sorts of question. The papers provide pointers, giving us frameworks to assess and design a range of user experiences; I'll share my reflections on these. While a workshop cannot address all aspects, of course, there are some important topics that are not extensively covered in the papers. I will explore some of these too; my aim will be to broaden the later discussions to include multi-modality, contextualised experiences and the perspective of billions of emerging users.
- Matt Jones is a Reader in Computer Science, Swansea University. Matt is helping to set up the Future Interaction Technology Lab at Swansea University. He has worked on mobile interaction issues for the past thirteen years and has published a large number of articles in this area including Mobile Interaction Design (Wiley & Sons, 2006) with Gary Marsden. He has had many interactions and collaborations with leading industry partners. Further details are available at http://www.undofuture.com
